Description

Sommerville: Sard. A fanciful antique seal. Insects, Birds, and Crocodiles. Intaglios and Their Imprints, Case CCC.

Vermeule: Sard. Intaglio. (Unmounted) A raven standing to right, with spread wings flanked by two crocodiles left and right, two insects above and below. Graeco-Roman. The lizards or crocodiles perhaps referring to the worship of Dionysus-Sabazios; the raven, of course, refers to Apollo. Graeco-Roman.
