Description | Bagobo man’s trousers called saroár. Gussets in four pieces at crotch. Ikat pattern on plain weave of abaca - dark brown, mahogany, and undyed/light brown. These colors would have come from the same dye source, the roots of Morinda Citrifolia, which produces a spectrum of red hues. Thick black and red ribbon appliqué featuring multi-colored beaded embroidery. Holes at crotch mended with patchwork. Waist drawstring, currently tied. Displayed at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis in 1904. |
