Description | Globular body, tapering neck. With cat's face painted on body, and collar painted on neck of vessel Narrow-necked jar/bottle with a globular body, tapered neck, missing rim, no handles, and a flat base. No molded/modeled additions. the body has slight impression of a felid face. The body of the vessel is slightly impressed with the features of a felid face. The vessel is red slipped with white and black painted design of the felid face and a collar around the join of the neck to the body. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink on the bottom of the base. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "1801." |
