Description | Sommerville: Antique Iridescent Glass. The sun between the Dioscuri, the sons of Jupiter - Castor and Pollux. Probably representing an emperor and his two sons, symbolized by their patron divinities. Antique Pastes, Case SSS. Vermeule: Glass Paste, Antique Iridescent. Cameo. (Unmounted) broken at right. Bust of an emperor, perhaps Constantine the Great represented as Helios and flanked by laureate busts of the Discouroi facing slightly toward him. In addition to radiate crown, the emperor appears to wear a large diadem or wreath surmounted by a Cameo over his forehead. Stars surmount the heads of the Dioscuroi. Graeco-Roman. |
